The Society has always been committed to enhancing the family wellbeing in Hong Kong. In 2019, we launched the Hong Kong Family Wellbeing Index (HKFWI), the first measurement tool to assess family wellbeing in the city. Since 2020, we have been launching research studies of HKFWI regularly to raise public awareness. This is the first socially relevant and culturally appropriate measurement tool of sound reliability and validity to regularly assess the wellbeing of Hong Kong families. By exploring the impact of social changes, such as the pandemic, on family wellbeing, we provide professional recommendations to enhance the family wellbeing of the general public. Hence, HKFWI also serves as an important reference for families, the government, and stakeholders from different sectors in promoting family wellbeing and formulating family-friendly workplace measures.
Engaging the Community through Online and Offline Platforms
In addition to conducting regular territory-wide study to evaluate the family wellbeing status of Hong Kong families, the Society has provided an online questionnaire for the public to assess their own family wellbeing across six domains, namely "family solidarity," "family resources", "family health", "social connection", "social resources" and "work-life balance". This assessment is accompanied by recommendations, allowing the general public to understand effective ways for enhancing family wellbeing.
To enhance public understanding and awareness of family wellbeing, the Society has published a series of well-crafted posts on social media platforms, employing simple illustrations and relatable examples from HKFWI. Alongside our online promotional efforts, we have designated the month of May as "Family Month" and organised "Homeland" Family Market, also the highlight event of the month where shopping, entertainment, and exhibitions were featured to promote quality family time and enhance family wellbeing.
Furthermore, the Society offered corporates with customised online questionnaires based on HKFWI to actively engage their employees. These questionnaires could be customised with the inclusion of the corporate’s logo and an additional question that addresses specific organisational needs. By gaining a better understanding of their employees' family wellbeing status, corporates could effectively devise family-friendly workplace measures and policies that cater to the needs of their workforce.
