Online Learning
I am a working mother. Recently, the pandemic is getting worse. In addition to working from home all day, I also have to keep track of my children's study schedules and progress. My elder daughter will be promoted to secondary one next year and she is very likely to continue online learning. How do parents and children earlier adapt the new normal of online learning?
Initially, parents should relax themselves through doing something they enjoy. When you are talking to your children, the tone, gestures, and attitude demonstrated to your children will impact on your relationship with children and outcomes of communications. If parents discuss academic studies and online classes with their children in an anxious and worried manner, the outcomes will become negative in return.
Parents are recommended to listen to their children's views first during the period of online learning. Some students may not be able to thoroughly understand the teaching and keep up with their pace of learning through online platforms. Besides, without interactions with their peers, their concentration may not be as good as in the classrooms. Parents can find appropriate time to discuss with their children about their studies, the challenges they might encounter in online courses or actively seek children’s suggestions on what parents can do to improve the situation. When a new school term starts, the school will normally discuss the teaching arrangements. Parents can approach the school and inquire about the arrangement of online lessons if needed.
